Romania Discreetly Enters the Space Club

The first Romanian space rocket was successfully launched on Sunday, using an original method. Romania’s rocket was lifted to the launch altitude by a special baloon. The oxygenated water based engines were then fired and the rocket was reportedly sent to space successfully. No details about the mission have emerged so far. ARCA (Romania’s equivalent of NASA) has announced that images from the rocket’s cameras will be released soon.

A first attempt to launch Romania’s first space rocket failed last year, when the engines misfired. Romania’s space effort is aimed at sending an unmanned craft to the Moon by 2015. If Romania’s space engineers succeed, they will be able to collect a 30 million dollar prize laid down by Google.
