OLAF Inquest in 60 EU Million Car Acquisitions

Romania and Bulgaria are again under European scrutiny, since OLAF officials have confirmed that there is an on-going investigation into the suspect acquisition of cars, with European Union funds.

The purchases have been made between 2001 and 2006, as part of the SAPARD programme, a project focused on the development of agricultural enterprises. According to OLAF sources, several companies from Germany and Italy have sold to Romania and to Bulgaria equipment and cars at prices at 20% or even 30% above the market value of the products.
