Probably the World’s Drunkest Man on Christmas

An unnamed man was admitted to the emergency room at “Sf. Ioan” Hospital in Iaşi, Romania, on Christmas day 2010, in an alcohol induced coma, with a blood-alcohol level of 6 miligrams of pure alcohol per litre of blood. The man confessed to the doctors, after he was pulled out of the coma, that he had drunk the equivalent of over five pints of strong Romanian brandy – over two litres. The liquor in question usually has an alcohol concentration of over 40 percent and may range to 60 percent of pure alcohol in volume. This is Romania’s highest recorded level of blood-alcohol concentration, according to doctors. Anyone with 2 miligrams of pure alcohol per litre is usually already dead, confirmed medical sources. Another 20 other Romanians were admitted in the same hospital, on the same day, because of alcohol abuse or because of legal drugs overdose.

Porn Star Couple Innaugurates Swingers’ Club

Joanna Romain and Mihai Dumitrescu, famous for their careers as porn stars, were the couple to give the “maiden run” to one of Bucharest’s new swingers’ clubs. With dimmed music and candle light, the club offers swinging couples a place to socialize and get to meet. And for those who want to move to the next level, the club also features private rooms, with beds and condoms.

Unlike most swingers’ clubs, those in Bucharest allow single men to enter. Of course, the charge for a single man to attend is three times higher than the one for single women: 300 Romanian Lei (about 100 USD) for a man, 100 Lei for a woman and 200 lei for a couple. Swingers’ clubs have become evermore popular in Bucharest in the past decade and there have been several such clubs opened throughout Romania.

Dangerous Living: Repo Man in Romania

Threats, curses, bribes, physical violence: it is what the people in Romania’s latest line of work are up against in the line of duty. With more people not being able to pay their bank installments, repossession companies are now flourishing. They get more business than ever, but desperate people will do desperate things – and it’s desperate people they are up against.

Some of their targets fight back. Some with curses, others with their fists. Some try to bribe them, others try to bargain. Romania’s repo men are going out to confiscate anything, from cars and equipment to houses and property. In the case of cars, every month there are at least 10 new cases in Bucharest only, claim a repo company’s representatives. And the number of repossessed homes is now in the thousands. It is a business on the rise, as it takes a desperate person to send out to get another.
