Romania: A Second Wave of Dead Birds

Hundreds of birds died in Romania, for the second time in a month

Hundreds of dead or agonizing crows have brought terror to a town in the Eastern part of Romania. Since Saturday, the locals of Roman, a town of 80.000 people, have noticed that hundreds of crows fell to the ground dead or in agony in one of the local parks. On Monday, dozens of birds were struggling with death, unable to fly. Local experts suspect that the crows may have been poisoned, but no verdict can be given before a forensic study is conducted.

Some three dozens starlings have also been found dead in Constanţa, by the Black Sea, in Romania, on January the 8th. Veterinarians concluded that the starlings died of cold and alcohol intoxication.

Moldova’s Digital Gipsy Worth 5 Millions

Created by Simpals, an animation studio in Chişinău, Moldova, the 3D Gipsy series is to receive substantial funding from a Russian company, STV Film. The Russians are willing to invest 5 million Euros in the further development of the cartoon series, according to Ziarul de Gardă.

According to Simpals’ representative Vlad Ştirbu, the company is going to hire 100 people that will work on the cartoon series for the next five years. The Gipsy project started with a 10 minute comedy series, that has also attracted the attention of Pixar-Disney, in 2008.

The music score of the cartoon is composed by the famous Moldovan band, Zdob şi Zdub, whose frontman, Roman, is also an enthusiast of Gipsy culture.
