An unnamed man was admitted to the emergency room at “Sf. Ioan” Hospital in Iaşi, Romania, on Christmas day 2010, in an alcohol induced coma, with a blood-alcohol level of 6 miligrams of pure alcohol per litre of blood. The man confessed to the doctors, after he was pulled out of the coma, that he had drunk the equivalent of over five pints of strong Romanian brandy – over two litres. The liquor in question usually has an alcohol concentration of over 40 percent and may range to 60 percent of pure alcohol in volume. This is Romania’s highest recorded level of blood-alcohol concentration, according to doctors. Anyone with 2 miligrams of pure alcohol per litre is usually already dead, confirmed medical sources. Another 20 other Romanians were admitted in the same hospital, on the same day, because of alcohol abuse or because of legal drugs overdose.

The 43 years old man who attempted suicide during a Parliament session in Romania has no life-threatening injuries, according to the doctors at the Bucharest Municipal Emergency Hospital. He was named as Adrian Sobaru, an employee of TVR, Romania’s national broadcaster, as an electrician in the news department. The man has two children, one of which suffers of autism. He, as well as thousands of other Romanians, has lost the state benefit money for his disabled child, claim sources in the media. The Parliament’s session has been resumed as scheduled.
Suicide Bid In Parliament Session
An employee of the public broadcaster has leapt from a balcony within the Romanian parliament, just as the prime minister was delivering a speech before the MPs. The incident happened around 11 o’clock Bucharest time. Before jumping, the man shouted to the prime minister: “You took the food from our children!”. The parliament’s session was halted, as the victim was given emergency medical assistance. Sources say that the man is an employee of the news department at TVR, the national broadcaster in Romania. He is in his 40s and has, according to sources, several bank loans.
Half of Romania Longs for Communism
21 years after the bloody fall of the Ceauşescu regime, almost one in two Romanians feels that they would have lived a better life if the revolution hadn’t happened, it is revealed in a survey conducted by IRES (the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy). 84 percent of Romanian think it was wrong to execute Elena and Nicolae Ceauşescu without a thorough trial. 60 percent of Romanians regret the death of the ruling couple. 61 percent of the people who were interviewed in the survey estimate that they live worse than 21 years ago. As to the question to the nature of the change of power, 45 percent of Romanians believe it was a revolution, while 45 percent think it was a political and military coup.
Expanding Crater Swallows Romanian Town
A supermarket and several homes have sunk in a crater that has appeared on Wednesday morning in Ocna Mureş, Romania. Dozens have been evacuated and the town is now in state of emergency, while the crater has increased in size to a diametre of over 100 metres. The cause of the disaster is an old mining network that spreads underneath 60 percent of the town. The caves have been flooded for almost four decades, according to sources, since the major floods that struck Romania in 1970. Authorities are powerless to stop the crater’s expansion and can only evacuate the people while waiting for the caves to stop crumbling.
Emergency Landing to Save Singaporean Pregnant Woman
A KLM flight made an emergency landing in Bucharest, to save a 28 years old pregnant woman who became severely ill during the flight. An ambulance rushed her to the hospital straight from the airport. The doctors at Elias Hospital in Bucharest discovered that she had suffered a massive hemorrhage. She is now in stable condition in the hospital’s ICU. The young woman and her husband were going on vacation to Amsterdam, but will now be spending their holidays in Romania, waiting for the woman’s recovery.

TV Diva: “I Stripped for Playboy, They Didn’t Pay!”
It probably seemed like a good idea for Romanian sexy diva Daniela Crudu to take off her clother for Playboy in front of about a dozen print factory workers. Especially since, as she claims, the magazine had promised her 5.000 US Dollars in return for her display of naked beauty. Although she says that she signed a contract for the fee above and her naked photos appeared in the March 2010 edition, Daniela complains that she never did receive the money.
Sources close to Daniela Crudu say that she’s been making countless phone calls to the magazine representatives, hoping to eventually get her money, but to no success. “We received an order from Hugh Heffner, saying that the girls we feature in our magazine should not be paid any more. We know nothing of any money for Daniela Crudu”, stated Daliana Barbuică, PR Manager for Playboy Romania.
Hackers: “We Crashed VISA for Wikileaks!”
“It was us who crashed the VISA and MasterCard websites, in order to retaliate for Julien Assange’s arrest” was the confession made by a self-proclaimed hacker from Romania, part of the Anonymous group that claimed responsibility for the cyber attacks on the card companies’ servers. “It was a sit-in DDoS attack, which is a Distributed Denial of Service. In lay terms, this means we blocked the access to those servers by sending numerous requests. We did not affect any transactions, our purpose was to draw attention”, added the hacker who wished to remain unnamed. The interview also contained a warning from the hacker group, saying that they will act again “wherever there will be abuses from governments and corporations that infringe citizens’ rights. As our ranks thicken, we also increase our capacity to hit more targets. We are considering our future actions”, added the hacker.
